Amazon & Pet CBD in 2024
Back in March 2024, we highlighted a study focusing on CBD products for humans being sold on Amazon. Despite Amazon’s prohibition on CBD product sales, CBD Oracle’s investigation revealed a troubling reality: some items contained CBD, others lacked any hemp content, and a few even made exaggerated claims that were scientifically unattainable.
Following up on this, we approached CBD Oracle to inquire about delving into the realm of pet CBD products available in the market. Their findings were stark: “While Amazon’s hemp offerings for humans are generally subpar, those intended for pets are even more concerning in terms of quality.”
While many human-oriented hemp companies made efforts to align with FDA regulations, some still ventured into making medical claims. This might appear inconsequential at first glance, but it poses significant risks for pets who rely on specific compounds for their well-being. CBD Oracle estimates that a staggering “83% of hemp products marketed for pets on Amazon make unapproved medical assertions.”
Dr. Brandon, during the interview, emphasized a crucial recommendation for Amazon: “Revise cannabis policies to incorporate federally legal hemp-derived CBD products accompanied by batch-linked certificates of analysis (COAs) or endorsed by a NASC Seal or equivalent accreditation.” This not only streamlines Amazon’s oversight post-acceptance of a CBD company onto their platform but, more importantly, provides pet parents with confidence that the purchased product aligns with its advertised claims. As CBD Oracle aptly concludes, “We deserve better, and so do our beloved pets.”
